It's hard to imagine that they were on verge of bankruptcy last year and couldn't have survived without hundreds of billions of aids from the US government. With economy still being a terrible shape most of blue chip non-financial companies reported huge drops in profits. Make-to-market accounting is tossed into air so are the huge writeoffs for banks. Those risky financial instrutments like CDOs are nothing but but a massive Ponzi scheme. What separates them from the actions of Bernard Madoff is that CDOs are legal. But instead of punishing those Wall Street thieves, the US government covered their asses and rewarded them. What they don't know is that the most important thing they lost in this crisis is trust which will takes decades of time to rebuild it.
