A woman has died after taking part in a ‘slapping therapy’ course during a hotel stay.

Danielle Carr-Gorman, 71, died after going to the ￡750 self-healing retreat lead by Hongchi Xiao in which participants were repeatedly slapped.

Mr Xiao claims that toxins can be removed from the body by hard slapping and stretching on a bench – a technique called Paida-Lajin.

However, while on the retreat it is believed Mrs Carr-Gorman, who had diabetes, did not take her insulin injections and she fasted for three days.

Mr Xiao and another man and woman have now been arrested on suspicion of manslaughter.
