If lucky, get a good one, then good.
If unlucky (I spent over $1000, bought one IP U400 I7-2620M last thanksgiving for my girl), then you will have to deal with its service. not bad but not good either.

Since most people say it good, hence my girl wanted one. When it's shipped to her. 1st day, it's found stereo jack not working, mono-sound only. It took about a month to replace. two months later, its DVD drive jammed. shipped back again.

Simply say. Quality is an issue.
But my co-workers (white) told me similar story on Dell, HPQ, , ,
Hence, I wouldn’t trust any of them,

Thinkpad is still good. I started x30, now T420s, no problem

Mine just broke, same problem as yours. Used for 6 year.

IdealPad is low end one with cheap components. Thinkpad is the high end.

I have T61. No idea how to break it, so can buy a new one with good excuse.

ThinkPadT40 T60 都用过，不错。刚买了IdeaPad Y580。感觉不好，系统老是出问题。我在加拿大，从联想网上（.ca）买的，过了一个月才收到。说是从美国送货过来，加拿大海关还要检查。同时买的软件过了俩月了还没收到。服务太差。可以考虑从Futureshop 或 Bestbuy 店里买。

联想的电脑部门是从IBM买来的。

ThinkPad主要是商务用的，机子轻，薄，性能较强，属于高档。

IdeaPad主要是普通家庭娱乐用的。较ThinkPad重和厚，属于中档。

个人经验：联想的机子比HP要强些，Dell三者之中最差。

NND,想买个功能强大点的TP还买不到，店里的基本都是IP，或基本型的TP
