Chinese CPI calculation has 25% of the index pegged to food cost, whereas US CPI calculation excludes food and energy costs. Hence while we are seeing serious inflation in China, the US CPI measure hardly shows any inflation. In China, we are seeing inflation from raw material, labour cost, food, energy, capital items and housing whereas in the U.S. we see deflation in capital goods, luxury items and housing (things we like) vs inflation in food and energy (things we need). |
