just sign in IB, seems the chart is not as good as ameritrade's strategydesk. any suggestion to how to use IB efficiently? thanks.

Use ninjatrade and IB as datafeed.

use IB with QuoteTracker. (if you have ameritrade acct, should be able to download and use QuoteTracker for free)
strategy desk has more historical data.  my quotetracker with IB can only show about ~1year historical data.
