NEW YORK (MarketWatch) -- The Treasury Department sold $13 billion in 30-year bonds on Wednesday at a yield of 2.925%, the lowest level on record. Bidders offered to buy 3.05 times the amount of debt sold, compared to an average of 2.81 times at the last four comparable auctions. Indirect bidders, a group that includes global central banks, bought 32.5% of the sale, compared to 36.1% on average. Direct bidders, a class that includes domestic money managers, purchased another 21.2%, versus an average of 19.5%. After the auction, the broader bond market extended gains. Yields on 10-year notes, which move inversely to prices, fell 5 basis points to 1.92%.
