The 2009 American League Championship Series (ALCS), the second round of the 2009 American League playoffs, will be a best-of-seven game series matching the two winners of the 2009 American League Division Series. The AL East Division champions, the New York Yankees, and the AL West Division champions, the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, will face off in the ALCS to win a trip to the 2009 World Series. New York will hold home-field advantage. The series, the 39th in league history, is scheduled to begin on October 16 and run no later than October 25 (if all seven games are played). Fox Sports will carry all games with Joe Buck and Tim McCarver in the broadcast booth. This season, weeknight games will begin 40 minutes earlier as suggested by Commissioner Bud Selig.[1]

This will be the New York Yankees' first ALCS appearance since 2004, and the Angels' first appearance since 2005.

In the last few matches between Angels and Yankees, looks Angels always hold Yankees' cards.

I guess A-Rod could be the key again, and if he goes back to his old-self, I will take Angels win in 6 games.

I think it's still about pitching. A-Rod is just one guy, you cannot expect he hit a game winning HR every time.
I agree Angels gave Yanks hard time in postseason. They split regular season series 5-5, and Yanks won the last series in LA.
I am 50-50 for this series, actually should Angels have home field advantage, they would be the favor.

I guess the series might decided by bullpen. The bad weather or even rain out/rain delay for the first 2 games might play a role.

You are definitely right about pitching more important than A-Rod.

I am rooting for Angels, of course. Brought my kids to the Angels stadium a few times, very cool experience, no traffic at all.

I am picking Angels-Dodgers in the World Series, and we have not had this sub-world-series for quite a while, last one was between Mets-Yankees.

Never been Yankees fans, even hate them somehow like so many other Non-New-Yorkers:)

When Angels beat Yankees in the ALDS/ALCS twice in the last few years, Joe Torre was the manager. Now you have a different one, plus I have not followed up on him, so have no clue, but still put a few grands on Angels to win the series over Yankees, also hedged some money on Yankees to win in 7 games (with much higher payout)

This series will be a lot more fun for me to watch than the Phillies-Dodgers series, as both teams have great pitching and batting....

I think Phillies and Yanks are in WS.
From game 1 in last night, I don't see Dodgers have any advantages, the only concern for Phillis is their closer. Now Dodgers' home field advantage is gone. If they lose again today, NLCS should be over soon.

Yanks is not underdog in ALCS, haha,  just like I said, it's 50-50 even.
Before Angels never won a postseason series against RedSox, they swept them this year. Now it's Yanks' turn to return the favor to LAA this year. LOL

The weather sucks, I am not sure which team can take advantage of it....

Yankees are actually favored to win, and the payout for Angels is 2.55 (you put $1 on Angels to win, and you get $2.55 if they do win). And the payout for Yankees to win 4-3 is 5 (as you know they could win 4-0, 4-1 or 4-2 etc.).

So say I put $2000 on Angels to win and $500 on Yankees to win with 4-3. And my total betting money is $2500.

So if Angels win (4-0, 4-1, 4-2, 4-3), I get $5100-500=$4600 back.

And if Yankees win 4-3, then I break even.

And I lose all if Yankees win 4-0, 4-1 or 4-2.

Maybe I should put some more money on Yankees 4-2 to get better protection, as it should definitely be a 6-game series...

It will be LONG series. I heard Vegas gave 2-1 to favor Yankees.
In 2003 ALCS, Vegas favored RedSox, they lost.
In 2004 ALCS, Vegas still favored RedSox, they won. So, who knows. LOL

I used to bet on sports as well, not right now.

My favorite SPORT is NFL. You name any NFL team, I can tell you the background of its headcoach, their star players and weakness/strength for the last 10 years...

As for MLB, I only watch the playoff games, MLB regular season is too long and too boring, to me....


I normally pick some very interesting games to put some small money into it, this way I can find some team to root for, making it more fun to watch. The goal of my betting is not to make money, but of course if I win many bets, that definitely will be more fun.
