yes, that is what i see. the spx use the opening; the spy use the closing.
But all spx are monthly options

oh, that part I do not know. So are you saying that every week, there will be an SPX option expire on Friday? if that is the case, then it make sense now.

Just searched, and found the SPX weeklys are under symbol SPXW and are with "PM settlement". Also, there are SPX monthly options traded with "PM settlement" under SPXPM, while the common SPX options are "AM settled".



"** S&P 500 Index ("SPX") Weekly options trade on CBOE with PM settlement and are listed under the root ticker symbol, "SPXW" and are commonly included in SPX (traditional) options chains which are AM settled. Separately, the C2 Options Exchange lists S&P 500 Index options with PM settlement, under the ticker symbol SPXPM, that expire on the same Friday of the month as traditional SPX options that trade on CBOE."
