That would be the turning point.
Greek GDP is only about 2% of the entire EU, and hence its fiscal deficit is only about 0.2% of EU GDP. It's actually not a big amount and Germany alone can easily rescue Greece from the current crisis. But Germany and France want to teach all other little brothers a lesson first, to force them stick to the strict EMU rule that fiscal budget should not exceed 2% of national GDP. They are using this as a fire drill, however they won't all the real fire spreading onto the more important countries Spain and Italy. |
