SPY Weekly Chart

Look at the SPY weekly chart from 2003 to 2006. The bull market started when SPY crossed SMA50 on the weekly chart. It had corrections/dips along the upward trendline, but it always bounced off of SMA50.

Here is the current weekly chart and I think SPY will hit SMA50 again.
