A new species of giant water lily has been discovered by scientists. The huge plant had been in the archives of the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew and was growing in a number of aquatic collections but it was previously mistakenly identified as another species.

More than a million people took part in the 50th anniversary of the UK's first Pride parade in central London. Hundreds of LGBTQ+ community groups attended the march, which saw the streets of London, from Hyde Park Corner to Whitehall Palace, filled with a riot of noise and colour.

In South Africa, a mass funeral was held for a group of 21 young people, mostly teenagers, who died in mysterious circumstances at a bar last month. Empty coffins were laid out before thousands of mourners - including South Africa's President Cyril Ramaphosa - in East London, a city in Eastern Cape Province.

Japan's former prime minister Shinzo Abe has died in hospital after he was shot at a political campaign event. Security officials tackled the gunman at the scene following the assasination. The 41-year-old suspect named as Tetsuya Yamagami, admitted shooting Abe with a homemade gun.
