Be careful when you read the housing price data

The newly released FHFA Feb09 housing index rose 0.7% against Jan09, but Jan09 data is revised at the same time from 1.7% increase to only 1%! Statistically this reported Feb09 number is meaningless given such a wide error range. Personally I suspect that the number has been cooked or manipulated by Fannie/Freddie (since the index only calculates the mortgage sold/guaranteed by 2F), the index has never been revised by more than 0.1% before Jan09!
