Tech company and good Manager

When technology company gets good manager, only sky is the limit, but good managers are rare in tech companies, and it is very hard to know early on.

Is Elon Musk a good manager? here's his track record so far: (source from wikipedia)

- drop out of graduate program in Stanford, started Zip2 in 1995
Zip2 sold to AltaVista (Compaq) for S$307 million in cash and US$34 million in stock options

- co-founded X.com, merged with Confinity in 1999. In 2001, changed name to PayPal.
In October 2002, PayPal was acquired by eBay for US$1.5 billion in stock.
Before its sale, Musk, the company's largest shareholder, owned 11.7% of PayPal's shares.

- founded SpaceX in June 2002, current chairman and CEO
SpaceX was awarded a $1.6 billion NASA contract on 23 December 2008, for 12 flights of their Falcon 9 rocket and Dragon spacecraft to the International Space Station, replacing the Space Shuttle after it retired in 2011.
On 25 May 2012, the SpaceX Dragon vehicle docked with the ISS, making history as the first commercial company to launch and dock a vehicle to the International Space Station.

- co-founded Tesla Motors in 2003, current chairman and CEO of Tesla Motors.
The strategy is to first sell high end sports car to the rich, be profitable first then use the profit to design a lower priced electric car for the mainstream consumer.

- had six kids with previous wife, got divorced and married British star Talulah Riley. To be honest, Talulah Riley is hot

2) The company should have some intrinsic characteristics that let it maintain a sustainable competitive advantage
3) The company has good management
4) Pay attention to the price you are paying. No matter how good a company is, it is not worth infinite amount of money
