Massive paper sell order on the close today

Normally I only monitor the first hour or so of paper activities in the S&P pit each day. I got up early this morning and the U.S. market was still open though only for the last few minutes. There were massive paper sell orders on the cash close right on 4PM by MS, JP, GS, Chi Corp (used to be ABN AMRO as a lot of people have been private-messaging me asking what Chi Corp is). I counted at least 2000 cars sold (roughly 500 cars each) on the cash close. This is not a good sign for tomorrow. I suspect the institutions are expecting (or already known through their contacts) for a much worse than expected GDP estimate revision.

The short answer is that I don't know.

As you probably know, all of the institutional buy and sell orders are obtained from s&p pit audio feed I subscribe to. There is no summary of daily activities by the feed provider. I only monitor the feed mostly 1 hour a day at the start of the trading day In any case, I just don't have the time to listen to the feed, publish in the daily thread and also tabulate the information.

I guess this is a partial hedge to institution's equity long positions ahead of upcoming GDP 2nd read on Friday,  if it's a bearish news then they will keep on adding short index futures downward until the worst NFP data & employment status report is checked in on Sep 3.

Bearish gravity is dragging risk asset down to their ground.
