Why does the gap have to be filled? It is quite common because of the irrational exuberance, and the market which reflects human emotion.
As the initial spike was mainly due to the significant news that led to the price gap, the gap was filled after the information was digested by the market.
In addition, once the gap is filled, the price chart tends to move in the reverse direction, continuing in the way of the gap, i.e. in the case study here, the price will move up as it is a “gap up”.
This may represent a trading opportunity if the stock price falls back to the pre-gap level, as it is the next support level after the 100-day moving average.
However, please bear in mind that not all gaps need to be filled, and some may take months or even years.
As always, it is best to confirm buy/sell signals with other indications, and not only depend on a single indication to make your trading decision. |
