According to the latest research, millions of mites live on our face. The continue face washing and cleaning don’t impact their presence.
The study was conducted by Megan Thoemmes and Rob Dunn of the North Carolina State University. They discovered that the people above the age 18 hosted at least one mite species. The study was conducted on American volunteers and researchers believed that humans all around the world could be their hosts.
There are about 48,000 species of mites and two of them are found to be present on face skin: Demodex folliculorum and Demodex brevis. Research stated that nothing could be done to get rid of these mites.
In this study, 253 people had participated. According to this research, the mites waste and DNA after their death get mixed with the skin oily layer and keep it moisture.
This new study was published in the journal PLOS one on August 27.
