This guy is a total lier.
(1) Potash partly owns Canpotex. The other owners are Mosaic and Agrium.
(2) Canpotex jointly markets and exports products produced by the above three mentioned businesses.
(3) Canadian Government and Saskatchewan State Government levies a mining tax.
Excess profit is distributed back to the owners. Canpotex effectively is a duopoly producer in Canada in competition with another major potash producer (in Belarussia if my memory serves me correct). Hence had SinoChem group actually acquired Canpotex, it would have had an effective share in the profit of Canpotex.
In any case, the takeover bid was launched by BHP Biliton with SinoChem as a minor player. The bid was blocked by Canadian Government because BHP intended to market all products directly rather than through Canpotex. This was what caused the bid to be blocked by Canadian Government because it would have lowered mining tax substantially due to competition from BHP against other members of Canpotex. |
