With an early decline of 2.68%, the S&P 500 is on pace to have its third worst start to November on record going back to 1928. As shown below, all Novembers that have seen a drop of 2% or more on the first trading day of the month have seen declines for the remainder of the month as well. Interestingly, all Novembers that have seen declines between 1% and 2% on the first of the month have seen gains for the remainder of the month.
