WALKER -- The pastor of Gospel Light Baptist Church in Walker is accused of sexual assaults against two children, incidents that police say happened several years ago.
Tedd Butler is expected to be arraigned Thursday in Ottawa County District Court on a charge of second-degree criminal sexual conduct.
Another charge, first-degree criminal sexual conduct, is pending in Kent County, said Ottawa County sheriff's Lt. Mark Bennett.
Police believe Butler, 46, came to know the alleged male victims "through church activity."
Butler has been pastor at Gospel Light Baptist Church since 2003, according to the church's web site, and previously served at churches in Princeville Ill. and Newaygo.
Police began investigating Butler several months ago, Bennett said, after one of the alleged victims came forward with disclosures.
Bennett did not reveal the ages of the victims, but said both were minors and one happened eight years ago.
The Ottawa County assault is alleged to have occurred in Tallmadge Township while the Kent County case happened in Courtland Township.
Butler turned himself into the Allegan County Jail today, Bennett said. It was unclear why he went to Allegan, but Bennett said he would be transferred to Ottawa County on Thursday.
