BALLSTON SPA, N.Y. — A 36-year-old credit union employee who also served as pastor of his upstate New York church has been sentenced to three to nine years for stealing more than $400,000 from his employer to pay bills and support his children.
Jason LaPierre of Kingsbury was sentenced Monday in Saratoga County Court, where he pleaded guilty in May to second-degree grand larceny.
State police arrested LaPierre in January after investigating thefts reported by the Hudson River Community Credit Union in Corinth, where he worked in human resources and marketing.
Prosecutors say LaPierre stole the money over four years by forging approximately 300 cashier's checks from the bank and depositing them in his personal bank accounts.
LaPierre was also a minister at the River Church in Kingsbury in neighboring Warren County, 50 miles north of Albany.
