hehe.. i argued the same topic with that guy and lost the interest eventually.. I have been working in smartphone IC for quite a while and dealt with NOKIA a couple of occations. They made a few terrible mistakes, such as diversifying IC vendors, took over Symbian, focus on "service" and I realized all of them right away when they made the annoucment. But this time I actually think Elop made the "right" decision. Well, it's hard to quantify "right", but all he has are bad stakes and he has to make a choice with a less harmful stake. Many people just think about Nokia and MSFT alliance from this annoucement, but it is in fact a Nokia + MSFT + Qualcomm, each of them has particular advantage in their domain.. If they can crack out WP7 based Nokia phone with latest snapdragon processor, they will have the chance to turn around. In the end, it's good to user/carrier/OEMs to have a balanced market distribution for SP OS. A monopoly like Windows in PC world is not good for mobile world and it can not happen either. |
